Abstract

Neurodevelopment is driven by a fine balance between genetics and experience, interplaying a crucial role during gestation as well as soon after birth. Several antepartum and intrapartum factors have been reported to be specifically associated to neonatal adverse neurological events as well as long-term outcomes. Early detection of the at-risk pregnancies and related offspring is a very important tool to prevent and manage neonatal neurological complications. Herein we provided an overview of the main early gestational, clinical-demographic and environmental factors related to brain structural development and psychomotor pathways.
